General Meeting - March 26, 1999

Report of the Program Chair

Return me to 1999 Minutes.
Return me to Minutes & Other Documents Page.

Breakdown of Program Panels by Area (All Panels):

United States:  42 Panels
Europe and Asia:  18 (including one on China)
Latin America and Asia:  13 (including one on Africa)
Total:  73

Phi Alpha Theta Panels:

United States:  20
Europe and Asia:  4 (including one on China)
Latin America and Africa:  3
Total:  27

Difficulties Encountered in this Year's Program:

  • Panelists did not receive a full copy of the program from the General Program Chair and the room assignments for the program were not on the Web.

  • Changes we would like to see on the Web page.

  • Delayed submission of the Phi Alpha Theta Panels for the History Program:  a)  PAT sessions make up almost half of our panels; b) The PAT co-ordinator does more work than any of the other area co-ordinators; c)  Suggestion for discussion:  to relieve this burden, area co-ordinators should assume responsibility for organizing graduate student panels.

  • I used bulk mailing for the panels and that did not seem to work -- we should regular mail the information.

  • Greater accountability for attendance:  ( a)  See errata page [not in files];    (b)  Do we want to survey panel chairs for participation and attendance?

  • Other suggestions
