Southwestern Historical Association

We, the undersigned members of the Southwestern Historical Association, hereby petition the Association under the appropriate provisions of the Constitution and By-laws to pass at its 1990 business meeting a change in the structure of officers, worded as appropriate modifications to these documents, according to the following sentiments:

THAT, the structure of officers of the Association be modified to provide for three Vice-Presidents and a President, along with other officers as currently noted elsewhere in the Constitution and By-laws.  Each of the Vice-Presidents, in rotation, will represent the sub-disciplines of History as now constituted in the Association:  United States, European / Asian, and Latin American / African History.  Their manner of selection shall be as currently practiced.  These Vice-Presidents shall be designated as First, Second, and Third Vice-Presidents, with a person entering this rotation starting with the office of Third Vice-President and moving automatically upward to the status of First Vice-President.  These three Vice-Presidents shall compose the program committee for sessions held at the annual meeting, with each responsible for assembling those sessions dealing with their respective sub-discipline.  The First Vice-President shall serve as General Program Chair for History.  After one year of service, the First Vice-President shall automatically become the President of the Association.  The President shall be responsible for official representation of the Association in all matters, especially in those touching upon relations with the Southwestern Social Science Association.  In addition, the President shall conduct the business meeting, appoint all committee members, and host the annual SwHA Cocktail Party.
